HYDRO POWER PROJECTS IN ARUNACHAL PRADESH
  • Siang Upper HE Project (11000MW)

    The Siang Upper HE Project located in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, is a storage scheme proposed to harness hydel potential of the upper reaches of the river Siang. The proposed scheme envisages construction of a 257 m rockfill/concrete Dam and Power House with estimated installed capacity of 11000 MW. The Dam is located near Goging village, 40km from Yinkiong which is 170km from Pasighat, headquarter of Lower Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh and 120km from Along.

    The Project comprises the following components :

  1. Temporary river diversion works including Diversion Tunnel/Channel
  2. 257m high rockfill/concrete Dam on River Siang
  3. Intake structure
  4. Head Race Tunnel & Steel lined Penstocks
  5. Surge Shaft
  6. Power House
  7. Tail Race Tunnel/Channel
  8. Switchyard

    Presently survey and investigation works for the preparation of feasibility report is in progress. The project is expected to be taken up for construction during the Twelfth Five-Year Plan starting from 2012.

  • Siang Middle (Siyom) HE Project (700 mw)

The Siang Middle (Siyom) HE Project, located in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh,
is a storage scheme proposed to harness hydel potential of the upper reaches of the river Siyom, a tributary of river Siang. The proposed scheme envisages construction of a 154m high rockfill Dam and Power House with estimated installed capacity of 700 MW. The Projects site is connected by single lane all weather road and is located near village Raying which is 60km from Along.

The project comprises the following components :

  1. Temporary river diversion works including Diversion Tunnel/Channel
  2. 154 Mtr. high rockfill Dam on River Siyom
  3. Intake structure
  4. Head Race Tunnel & Steel lined Penstocks
  5. Surge Shaft
  6. Power House
  7. Tailrace Tunnel/Channel
  8. Switchyard

    Presently survey and investigation works for the preparation of feasibility reports are in progress. Feasibility report will be submitted for ascertaining commercial viability in July, 2002 followed by Detailed Project Report(DPR)in October, 2003. The project is expected to be taken up for construction during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan starting from the year 2007.

  • Siang Lower HE Project (1700MW)

The Siang Lower HE Project located in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, is a storage scheme proposed to harness hydel potential of the lower reaches of the River Siang. The proposed scheme envisages construction of a 65m high rockfill Dam and Power House with estimated installed capacity of 1700 MW. The project area is located area is located at 50km from Pasighat along the Pasighat-Pangin road near Rotung village in East Siang district. The nearest rail head (meter gauge) available is at Jonai in Assam which is 35km from Pasighat on the Assam and Arunachal Pradesh border and nearly 85 km from project.

  2. 65m high rockfill/concrete Dam on River Siang
  3. Intake structure
  4. Head Race Tunnel & Steel lined Penstocks
  5. Surge Shaft
  6. Power House

Subansiri Upper HE Project located in Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh, is a storage scheme proposed to harness hydel potential of the upper reaches of the river Subansiri. The proposed scheme envisages construction of 265m high rockfill/concrete Dam and an underground Power House with estimated installed capacity of 2500 MW. The Dam is located upstream of Menga village which is about 360km from North Lakhimpur in Assam.

The project comprises the following components :

  1. Temporary river diversion works including Diversion Tunnel/Channel
  2. 265m high rockfill/concrete Dam on River Siang
  3. Intake structure
  4. Head Race Tunnel & Steel lined Penstocks
  5. Surge Shaft

  • Subansiri Middle (Kamla) HE Project

    Subansiri Middle (Kamla) HE Project located in lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh is a storage scheme proposed to harness hydel potential of the upper reaches of the River Kamla, a tributary of river Subansiri. The proposed scheme envisages construction of 213m high rockfill Dam and an underground Power House with estimated installed capacity of 2000MW. The Dam is located at about 3.5km from Tamen, which is 205 km from North Lakhimpur in Assam.

    The project comprises the following components:
  1. Temporary river diversion works including Diversion Tunnel/Channel
  2. 213m high rockfill Dam on River Kamla
  3. Intake structure
  4. Head Race Tunnel & Steel lined Penstocks
  5. Surge Shaft
  6. Power House

  • Subansiri Lower HE Project (2000MW)

Subansiri Lower Project is located in the states of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. The left bank of Dam is in the state of Assam and the right bank of Dam and Power House is in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. Most of the submergence area lies in Arunachal Pradesh. The project is about 470 km from Guwahati, the capital of Assam and 70km from North Lakhimpur, Assam. The nearest broad gauge railhead is Nagaon, while the nearest meter gauge railhead is Gogamukh in district Dhemaji, Assam. The installed capacity of the project will be 2000MW and will generate 7551 million units in a 90% dependable year.

The project comprises the following components:

  1. 5 nos 9.5m dia horse shoe shaped Diversion Tunnels.
  2. 116m high concrete gravity Dam on River Subansiri
  3. Intake Structure
  4. 8 nos 9.5m dia horse shoe shaped Head Race Tunnels with length varying from 225 to 390m.
  5. Underground Power House of size 24m X 62.4m X 337m housing 8 units of capacity 250MW each.
  6. 8 nos., 9.5m dia horse shoe shaped Head Race Tunnels with length varying from 450m to 780m.
  7. Switchyard

    Survey and investigation works has been completed and Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared and is presently under examination in CEA for according techno-economic clearance. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 7468 crores at March, 2001 price level. The project is expected to be taken up for construction during the Tenth Five-Year Plan starting from the year 2002 and will be completed in a period of 84 months from the date of Government sanction.
